The initial idea to the Korjaamo Gallery summer exhibition came from The Beach Boys’s song and grew into a composition of works with a theme of water. Cool Water is a sparkling fresh summer exhibition approaching the theme broadly. Water in the works of this exhibition is pleasantly warm or freezing cold, turquoise, blue or red. It is tremoring of abstract shapes or bursting from the fountains. It is translucent materia in a bottle, it is the source for life, it is food for plants and an instrument for torture.  

The theme of water is interpreted by 11 artists, some of them having recently exhibited at Korjaamo Gallery: Elina Brotherus, Mikko Ijäs, Päivi Koskinen, Susanna Majuri, Tuomo Manninen, Heikki Marila, Tiina Mielonen, Mari Rantanen, Riiko Sakkinen, Maiju Salmenkivi ja Katja Tukiainen.

TURKU LOOKS 
Street fashion of Turku European Capital of Culture 2011

Turku Looks is a peek into a streetfashion in European capital of culture 2011. Liisa Jokinen has photographed Turku’s original and excentric looking people who in their outfit combine old and new, self-made and not, own and borrowed. Simplicity and comfort are not the first priority to these people.  

The series of photos have been taken in Turku during two days in the autumn 2009. Turku Looks is continuation of Liisa Jokinen’s ja Sampo Karjalainen’s celebrated Hel Looks –streetfashion website project. Established in 2005, the Hel Looks photos have been touring around the european cities.  

Liisa Jokinen (born in 1974) is a freelance-journalist and photographer of streetfashion. Jokinen writes about fashion, style and design in several different Finnish publications.  

Turku is Europe’s Cultual Capital in 2011 together with Tallin, Estonia.
